Mirror removal and electric screen

2 questions if anyone can assist please:-

*My 'new' 2012 R1200RT was dropped (albeit gently) by previous owner and the offside mirror casing was chewed up on the gravel and I want to replace it. It is only the black casing that is damaged, can anyone tell me how to remove it please?

*Electric screen, on my FJR it was easy to get to the linkage arms to put some lube on there, is it something that owners do on the RT and if so, best way to get into it?

                        Thanks in advance, Mick

Firstly the mirror.  If you look at Real OEM under Body Equipment you will find the mirror and all the parts available.  You would need to buy what's called the body housing.
Hold the mirror with one hand and give it a good thump forward and its off.  Line up the fixing studs and bang it back on. Getting the mirror glass out of the housing without breaking it is difficult.

I have never put any lubrication on the screen rack but have occasionally removed the screen to clean all the moving parts in view.

Can't do this with the TC. There's a grub screw under the mirror housing that has to be removed first.

What before the whole unit can be detached.  So wonder what happens if you catch the mirror on something, does it destroy itself or rip the screw out.

Probably both.

The mirrors are secured in their housings by a set screw, accessible through a hole on the underside of the housing. To remove a mirror, first push the lower edge into the housing, then loosen the screw with a suitable Torx key just enough to be able to pull the mirror out.

(The turn signal can be removed without mirror removal, tilt mirror down to access the retaining screw.)

If required, undo the screws securing the backplate and lift it out. Note how the backplate locates on the peg on the rear of the headlight panel.

Does this grub screw (not present on my previous RT) hold the mirror in or the complete housing?

What year was your previous RT.

The set screw on the underside of the housing only holds the mirror in place.

See pages 5 & 6 of these lighting instructions for more details:- http://clearwaterlights.com/downloads/v ... .1_web.pdf

The grub screw holds the mirror in. The housing can then be removed by undoing the two bolts shown in David's third photo. Hence no need for the safety wires supplied by NN which pertained to pre TC.

Edit. Post overlap.

Mine was an 09 but the question was how to remove the complete unit which on mine could be knocked off with a good thump.

If so, then it's available from KFM, http://www.kfm-motorraeder.de/cms/en/ge ... 1167721110, don't know how much it is from a BMW Dealer.
