BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

Has anyone used the Hi Lo HF-160 oil filter in their new R1200RT LC Beemer ? How about Royal Purple 10w-40 full synthetic oil. The reason I ask is that all my other bikes and trucks are running Hi Lo filters and RP oil. I am just trying to stay consistent. The RT is the newest of my wheels and I must say, the most fun one.

Why would you even consider using the wrong grade oil and an aftermarket filter in a brand new very expensive bike. 

If the filter is specified for your bike why not? 10-40 oil if it meets specs should be good
For future use correct Mahle and Mann filters are available on Amazon at reasonable price as it castrol 5-40 synethic

From a Warranty point of view,
"You must keep Your Vehicle in an efficient and road worthy condition and regularly service it in accordance with the Manufacturer’s recommendations and genuine parts, or parts of equivalent specification must be used."

The oil recommended for an RT LC is SAE 5W-40.

I just cannot figure out why anyone would want to not use items like OEM filters.  Is it because they believer the manufacturer is fitting inferior parts or in the case of oil haven't worked out the best stuff for their engine.  It not like any of it is hugely more expensive or difficult to obtain.

I do not believe there has ever been an incident of BMW supplying faulty oil filters.  Had there been there would have been a recall fir all such filters issued and used and there hasn't been.  Cases if leaking ones is far more likely to be a fitting problem. 
But to swap to some aftermarket make just in case is daft.

I appreciate all of the input. It is not a money thing but just trying to stay somewhat consistent with oil and filters. RP oil is not cheap but seems to work good in my HD Ultra, Dodge Ram diesel and wife's BMW X-5. I also use Hi Lo filters in my ATV's

However, for the difference in cost & hopefully less chew over a Warranty claim, I only use BMW OEM ones on the RT.

I guess the Hi Lo oil filter is off of my list. Does anyone know the part number for a Mahle oil filter for the 2016 R1200RT LC ? I am still interested in anyone using RP 10w-40 engine oil since I purchase it in bulk for several other engines.

Don't know if it's made by Nahle but the proper filter for your bike is Pt No 11 42 7 721 779. You would also need the sump plug crush washer Pt No 07 11 9 963 340. Both items are readily available from your BMW dealer. As for 10/40 oil.  It's the WRONG oil for your bike no matter how much of it you have.

Looking at the picture of the Marle filter it seems to be a different construction from the proper one so the BMW is not just a rebadged version.
