I noticed yesterday that I'd lost the black plastic cap that is screwed onto the end of the lower pannier mounting outrigger.  I then checked the one on the other side and both screws were loose so I removed it completely before the cap fell off and went the way of the one on the other side.


So the moral of the story is, dab a little Loctite on the screw threads and make sure they never vibrate out again!  A replacement is on order.


(apologies in advance for the state of the bike - its seen a fair amount of wet roads lately!)

This came up here a couple of months ago and lots of us found them loose.  Do you ride with the panniers off.  There is a gap in the pannier lug where the bung fits but I don't think big enough to allow it to fall off.

I checked the screws on my 15 with 4500 miles, all were loose

Yes, I ride with them off.  I don't need the storage on a day to day basis so I leave them off to prevent potential filtering damage.

Erm....if you can fit the handlebars through when filtering, then the panniers will fit as well..! ???

Maybe Nobby takes the bar ends off as well...

wrap some tape around the screw heads, won't stop them coming loose, but may prevent loss.

Sensible suggestion.  I'll go and find some black tape.

Or even better, leave the panniers on and ride the bike in the way it look the best!

Good point! I've only just got my RT and I'm looking at with panniers on and off and it looks wrong without them. Too fat at the front? My beloved K75S definitely looks good without them but not the RT. Sorry to change the subject.

Too late now.  I've covered mine in sticky black tape. 

Where did I put the bailing wire
