Not hardback and paper quality very poor. But lots of invaluable information. Got mine for £20 delivered

They've gone up since first run.  I paid $36.17 on Amazon May 2.  Paper is thin, but it is a comprehensive manual.  I've paid a lot more for worse manuals...

Just got a new/replacement Haynes manual for my XJ650, as above the paper quality is no where near the same as the previous publication.

They have been using crap paper for years now. Cheaper I guess

Just noticed on the front cover, "printed on recycled paper".

Not a big fan of Haynes, although I have had many over the years. As said above very poor quality paper and the pictures (which are a vital part of any manual) are about 30 years behind the times. Grainy black and white with poor definition. Haynes really need to get up to date.

Yes, I would personally prefer to pay a bit more for a better quality Haynes manual. The current range of manuals just look plain cheap and shabby, even though it's not reflected in the current price!!🙄😠 Come on Haynes, improve what was a respected product! Rant over!😉

I was planning on buying the shop manual.
Does the Haynes manual contain any additional material a bmw noob might benefit from?

Bought the Haynes manual on Amazon last week for $24 delivered. I think they are clearing out the ones that end in 2016 on the cover, to make room for ones that end in 2017 on the cover. As the Amazon reviews state, a few of the pages are lightly printed, but still readable. The book is good for basic maintenance, like oil changes, plus many other inspection and repair jobs. There are wiring diagrams in the back.

Looks like Haynes ran out of coloured ink for the printer too.
The spark plug colour chart & wiring diagrams are not much good in black & white.

The two RT manuals I have, Hexhead & Camhead are both hard backed, have colour & decent paper quality.

The real manual is only on CD so far as I know.  As previously stated Haynes one is basic stuff.
