Has anyone heard/read if the 17 RT will have ABS Pro (lean angel sensitive). It is already available on the GS Adventure. I am holding off buying a RT LC for the new ABS. If not coming on the 17, I may take advantage of discounts on the 16 end of year bikes
.

I bought a used 2014 model here in the UK and when I asked what the main differences were between at 2014 and a 2016 model I was told it was the lean angle ABS

The only difference between a 14 and a 16 is colour and you can have keyless which came in in 15.  ABSPro on an RT.  I doubt that, ever.

I was also told by the dealer that the 2016 had special ABS that you could use in turns, and that was the difference between 2015 and 2016. Don't know what its called though  :)

Whatever it's called, he was telling you a fairy story and he ought to know better.  All he had to do was read the BMW press pack...

Why would they not release ABS Pro for the RT but have for the GS and K1600. Does the RT normally play catch up with such enhancements.

My only theory on why no ABS Pro on the RT yet, is that they sell more GSs thank RTs and the K series always has all the bells and whistles. I agree with richardb, who ever told you ABS Pro was on the 16 was blowing smoke. BUT in the end, no one seems to know if the 17RT will have it. I guess they anouce the new models in July or thereabout, so will see. Thanks.

More importantly, do you really need it?

I'm all in favour of electronic aids but to me, cornering ABS on bikes is a solution looking for a problem - especially on BMWs with the telelever front end, which allows a fair degree of (careful) braking in corners anyway.

I reckon most riders will never activate cornering ABS - just like most decent ones hardly ever activate normal ABS.  Better to spend the money on a bit of advanced training to avoid needing brakes in the bend in the first place!

I agree, but electronic aids are for those Oh Sh1t moments only. So can't say I've ever experienced ABS except when doing advanced training on an airfield, where we were pushed to make the ABS kick in, so we would know what it felt like.

unless we've been teaching it wrong all these years, it looks to me like the new system helps you ride the wrong line - beautifully!

And I'd hate to get it wrong and slide along that barrier with all those posts on the wrong side of it  :o

Naughty dealer - lets assume he got confused with all the models that did get it and the RT... ;D
