Looking at upgrading F800GT to R1200RT

Hello - I'm new to the forum.

I have a year old 2015 F800GT considering trading up to R1200RT.  Dealer has a 2014, 12000 miles.  Was dropped on last owners driveway.  Minor cosmetic damage (dealer is fixing).  Dropped on left side, minor mirror damage, minor damage to cover over left cylinder (the part that goes over the valve cover), and most damage to left rear side case.

For these bikes should one walk away from a driveway drop.  Owner had video from his go pro.  He backed into his own car and lost balance.

Given that with these bikes a drop means one of the cylinders is hit/stressed - what are your opinions please!

What should i be on the lookout for?

Thank you

Charles !

Zero speed, layover, I'll step out on a limb and say most have
My 1200gs got layed over in my driveway the day it came home with me, a pair of machine art Moto covers on valve covers will protect against future driveway mishaps
Bmw offers some side case protection strips, that will help in future spills
If damage was purely cosmetic and dealer willing to repair, wouldn't hesitate on purchase

If it's from Motorrad, you should get warranty package with it. I bought my 2010 model  RT this year with the same miles and the dealer gave 48 months Motorrad parts, labour and rescue warranty.

That's some warranty package.  Twice as long as a new one on a 6 year old bike.  The BMW AUB one is just 12 months.

In my very humble opinion there should be no problem with an RT that has suffered a lay down, at zero speed.
At least your dealer has been honest and up front, some would just repair the damage and sell without you ever knowing.

Agree with previous posts that Motorrad dealer will offer a warranty with it for peace of mind.

Good luck and enjoy be

24 months not 48 months. Apologies.

Still very good.  If it's  BMW Extended Warranty it's worth over £700.

I think it has a year of regular factory warranty left.  Did some of you get free extended warrant from the dealer.  This is a Motorrad dealer, same where I purchased f800gt new last year. Did that pad your prices to add warranty.
FYI hate one I am looking at is Callisto Gray with most options.  Missing central locking and gear shift assist pro.  I would add the shift assist.

Without central locking is it the base model, ie GPS cradle missing.  Not a popular second hand choice over here.

Yes. I got 24 months BMW warranty free of charge with the RT from Bowker Motorrad Preston.

It has gps prep.  Part of the ZTT technology package.  I'll post all codes when I have a moment.  It is really well loaded.

ZTT not familiar to me.  You don't say where you are but that's not a UK spec.
