2014 6000 mile service

So I had my bike served the end of Feb (annual service). the bike had done 3000 miles. The bike has now done 5800 and the service warning says I need the 6000 mile service. I rang the dealer and they told me the service is annually or every 6000 miles, which is a fair one, they also said the service policy does't suit all circumstances. So is the 6000 mile service the same as the annual service? I see there is an oil and filter change. The dealer told me if I didn't want the oil and filter changing again, they wouldn't do it. Problem being I have the extended warranty, which means you need the bike serviced as per the schedule. So if I have the 6000 mile service, guess my next one will be this time next year, or when I reach 12000 miles.

Your book should show next service due in Present mileage + 6000 or 12 months whichever comes first. So it should shown 11800.
Mine has 8900 on it and it's last service was last August. It was given an annual which was an oil and filter change and brake fluid change. Next one due at 14800,

When you had annual service done in February, service reminder should have been reset to next February or 9000 miles whichever occurs first,

T6pilot is correct. What was put in your handbook when it as serviced in Feb. Sounds to me that they didn't set the service reminder correctly.

So service books says - service date 20/02/16. Odometer 3196. Next service, 6000/20/02/17 or if logged beforehand - odometer 6000

Looking at the service schedules,
https://www.ascycles.com/2/bmw_motorcyc ... _schedules, they are indeed annual or every 6,000 miles which ever occurs first.
If the bike was serviced in Feb 2016 with 3,000 miles on the clock, the next service should be Feb 2017 or 9,000 miles.
IMO, the dealers have got it wrong, ask them to reset the service indicator correctly (FOC), then get the bike serviced as above.

+1 on that. Going to tell us which dealer doesn't know how to set the service indicator correctly?

And to add to their sins, they told you rubbish when you queried it. Lots of discounts due I would suggest.

GS911 tool allows you to reset/ customize your service reminder. Mine is set on 3000 Mile schedule. With the new BMW oil will extend this to 5000 miles
For those who do there own service or just want to keep a eye on the bikes health the 911 tool is well worth the price

I'll let you know how the call goes tomorrow. I have already queried it twice and they were adamant. So we will see

Good job you service in Feb wasn't at something like 5500. They could have had you back for another service a couple of weeks later.

Well the plot thickens. Spoke to another dealer and BMW customer service, who agree with the above assumptions. But my dealer has phoned BMW Technical who issue all the service bulletins etc and they disagree with their own customer service and say the 6000 mile service must be done. And in Feb the bike will be due another annual service, but if I'm close to 12k, they will combine the annual and 12k. My dealer has said the 6k without oil and filter will be £45, which they will waive because of the conflicting information. But apparently BMW technical is going to issue guidance to all garages as they are doing conflicting services. The reason why the service indicator is showing is because, they can not re-set until it is within 300 miles of the 6k. There is also a 1k leeway either side. Also they told me that there is no longer a 600 mile first service it has to be done at 350 miles, again BMW technical are informing all their dealers. Sounds like a right buggers muddle.

This is the 6,000 miles service schedule, taking out the oil & filter change only leaves visual inspection stuff, something which most dealers offer FOC.
What reason do BMW Technical give for saying this service
must be done.
Yes, in Feb. 2017, depending on the mileage, it would make sense to combine the 2 year (Oil change in rear bevel gears) + 12,000 miles service (valve clearance, spark plugs & air filter).

None of that agrees with my handbook record or the service schedule which shows a service due annually or every 6000 miles.
My records show First Service at 640, next due at 6640 or 12 months on
12 months on Service done at 3899, next due at 9899 or 12 months on
Another 12 months Service done at,7796, next due at.13796,
In all cases the service light came on about a month before the 12 month point.
