I'll be picking up my new bike in a couple weeks time. What can I expect to pay for the initial service?

Yes but not all dealers sing from the same hymn sheet, I was once quoted more by Alan Jefferies than Rainbow for the first 6,000m service, so despite the travelling I went on principle.

So maybe his question is relevant and not just asking his own dealer!!

Having bought your bike , presumably from your local dealer, the best way to ensure you get a first class service from him is not to try and save a few quid on your service costs.  They will soon find out when you pop it back for a bit of warranty work.
Labour costs seem to have the greatest effect and that depends on where you are.  Pretty sure prices are less in Yorkshire than London.

Yet another good answer, never thought of it that way. And I must admit that I was thinking along the lines of the 600 mile  first service (Running In Service) applicable to a pre- W.C. Engine where only the Oil and Filter (who's prices don't really vary) has to be paid for.

For the Running-in Check, do dealers charge for parts (oil & filter),  labour only or both.

In 2012, my TC RT had a Running-in Check, the dealers charged £100.00 labour only.

All charged for these days.  They will tell you that in the olden days when you didn't pay the labour you did really as it was in the initial purchase price of the bike

The parts are likely to cost the same at most dealers, the labour time is probably fixed, the only variable could be the hourly labour rate.

Have been quoted £100 for the first service, which includes parts and labour.


Also advised to have bike serviced nearer to 1000 miles rather than 600.

Book says between 500 and 1200 km .  So top distance is about 745 miles. 

I've been able to negotiate the run in service with the purchase of new bikes, so in effect cost is ZERO, worth trying to add when purchasing. On this side of the pond the cost is in the $250 price range, should include oil,filter and final drive fluid change

A.n.other has just had the first 600 miles Running-in Check (Service) on his 2021 R1250GS. Although he negotiated it to be free as part of the purchase deal, the invoice showed a cost of £157. This included and oil & filter change, plus final drive oil change.

The hourly labour rate is £108 + VAT = £130, that's just crazy!

Anything that involves a main BMW dealer , hence Bring More Wonga !!!!!

Oil changes are free for the life of the bike at my dealer (if you bought the bike from them). There’s not too much more than that at the 1000km service.
