I have always worn Helly Hansen. I have a set of their Merino wool base layers and they are top. I ride in some seriously cold weather and most of the time I don't need anything else under my textiles.

Visit Go Outdoors- good choice of long johns( even the cheap stuff us good for a couple of seasons). They pull up high above waist to tuck vests/tee shirts in for all round warmth. Used Go Outdoors base layers when walking the glaciers in Iceland in winter and legs were always warm.

EDZ,
http://www.edzlayering.com/activities/motorcycle/ do base layer leggings.
I've got the All Climate ones, the Merino ones
"work in the same way as the All Climate range but will keep you warmer in colder conditions".
