Re: Engine No
Found this on the BMWLT forum, http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/k1200lt/673 ... -year.html
"My engine number is 124EC 1904 2260".
"Assuming the code is the same for early K series -
12 = 1200 cc,
4 = cylinder number
EC is to do with fuel I think,
and the 1904 means 19th week of year 2004 for manufacture.
2260 is the number of the engine unit in the run."
If this theory applies to your RT, I'd say the engine was manufactured in week 38 of 2016.

Re: Engine No
Out of interest, the engine no. on my 2012 TC is 1812****.
Week 18 of 2012 was the first week in May, the bike was registered on 18th May 2012, seems reasonable to me.

Re: Engine No
Thanks for that Dave I assume DVLA had the wrong No on the V5 as it was just a series of numbers no letters!

Re: Engine No
The V5C should be updated with the new engine no., https://www.gov.uk/change-vehicle-detai ... -to-update
Re: Engine No
My V5 also just shows a series of numbers for the engine so yours was probably correct to start with. Far too cold out today to crawl underneath and check it.

Re: Engine No
Which engine no. is on the V5C, the original 2014 (numbers only) or, the replacement 2016 (letters & numbers).futterweasel wrote:I've just had a new one fitted, my old engine (2014) just had a series of numbers, my new engine number is a mix of letters and numbers.
Re: Engine No
The v5c has been updated with the new engine No, it seems strange that BMW would use a system for dating engines then stop using it for a year or two as per mine and RTman10's engine No and then go back to the previous system that's why I wondered if the wrong No had been recorded on the v5c originally. If you have a look RTman10 I found it easier to remove the off side lower trim/fairing only two screws and a grommet to pop out you still have to get down low to see it behind the starter.
Re: Engine No
Still interested in knowing why you had a new engine fitted. And yes I'll hsve a look in the near future.

Sorry meant to say in the previous post it was three weeks out of warranty but BMW did it out of good will, I had a renewal invitation letter from BMW extended warranty services stating my manufacturers warranty ran out on 15/10/2016 on this date I presented my bike to my local dealer and complained about the engine corrosion four days later head office came back stating it was a manufacturing defect but my warranty had expired in September after another complaint they said they would replace the engine/transmission on a goodwill basis so I have no warranty on the new unit.be
Re: Engine No
Bit of a result then. There was a lot of that with the 1600. Time they sorted it out.
