BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

Hi all,


Newcomer here having just bought a MY13 R1200RT SE with just under 7K miles on it.


Having been away on holiday for a couple of weeks I started it up in the garage and got a fairly evil smelling blast of white smoke out of the exhaust which lasted until it warmed up a bit more.


Is this common or have I bought a dud?

Was it left on it's side stand.

Errr.......yes it was.

It's possible you just had a small drip  of oil into the cylinder from the rocker box.  Not unusual if they are left on the side stand for an extended period.
Next time leave it on the centre stand and see what happens.

Some folks do home shares when they are away, just throw in an RT & that's the perfect holiday.

Or get one of these rigged up to keep an eye on your 'loved one'!


It'll even send an alert to your phone if someone takes the cover off your bike.

Just bear in mind that these devices that are accessible from the internet punch a hole through any firewall you may have on your broadband connection. The recent DDoS attack that took down a large part of the Internet a month or so ago was executed using code running on devices very similar to that, operating from the homes of millions of unsuspecting people. Add to that any which are made in China are required by law to hard-code the master password. I'm not saying don't install things like this, just please do so in the full knowledge that you are handing over the keys to your home IT to the manufacturer - you just have to decide how much you trust them.

My friend was over the moon with the one I gave him for Christmas. He had it set up and running before 10am. Great quality image too.


Presumably, securing your router with a strong password, encrypting it with WPA2, and changing the default username and password for the camera should mitigate any access concerns.
