Suspension warning light

Post by BeeJay »

I have a yellow warning light appeared on my 2014 RT, showing what looks like to be a suspension damper.
The suspension cghnages through soft to hard and when changing from rider only to rider & pillion the height changes.
My local, Chester, can't fit me in until Friday, I'm at present trying to contact Pidcocks at Long Eaton.
I'm going to Deryshire on Tuesday ready for a Cromer return trip, visiting ailing mother, on the Wednesday.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Can you identify the symbol in the handbook?  You won't get hold of Pidcocks until Monday.

Symbol is "ESA" fault, funny I did notice it "bounce" around a bit more than usual but I put that down to the road surface.
Spoke to Pidcocks and booked in for Tuesday 2:30
Fingers crossed.

There's me thinking today was Sunday.  Have you got extended warranty as that covers the suspension.

Nope, subscribed to the theory that the £300 or so that I save would offset any expenditure.
Mind you it's only 30months old (Sep 14).
If it's a replacement job I'll ask Pidcocks to have  a word with BMW direct.
I'll keep you posted.

How many people do take the extended warranty? I didn't it seemed very expensive, almost like BMW have no confidence in their product

I'm one who took it out on my previous Beemer. a K13GT, and yes, whilst it seems expensive for £371 per yr (with a £100 excess, and £400 / yr with a £50 excess applied), or just the emergency service breakdown cover for £142 / yr. Like any insurance, it's peace of mind if and when things go wrong at or away from home. I did have reason to claim on it when my ignition switch cluster went u/s away from home. Having the full cover, following a phone call to the BMW contact centre, a tow truck subsequently got me and my bike home. The following day, a specialist bike transport company collected the sick bike and took it to the nearest dealer to fix it. In the meantime, BMW provided me with a hire car, a nice shiny new 330 Touring to keep me mobile! So yes, I found it good when I had too use it.

When my 2 yr OEM warranty (which also includes emergency service as well) expires on my RT, I'll probably take out the extended cover again. Yes, not the cheapest cover, but consider what would happen if you broke down abroad with comparative cover through AA, RAC or similar. Are they really as thorough?? I doubt it. Just my two penneth....

I always do the same with modern bikes.  Too much expensive stuff to go wrong.  I know that not everything is covered forever but I'd still rather have it than not...

Just like the dentist, after days of toothache, when you get there the pain has gone.
After having the warning light on for over 100 mies ast weekend, this morning no warning light. THree stops en-route to Pidcocks and all clear. They're having a look but hopefully we're talking electrics of "computer" glitch.
Anyway they're fitting some Metzler 01s which I'll bed in easily tomorrow on my run to Cromer and back.

I had the ESA fail on my 2013 GS. Fortunately it was under extended warranty (came with the bike) as the bill to replace the ESA would have been £1,600 without it  :-\

Did Pidcocks find any fault with your ESA?.  How are your 01s

Using an old BT term "FNF"
No fault found. There was nothing in the log to indicate a problem with the ESA.
But, this morning the warning light came on again and stayed all the way to Cromer.
After lunch when coming home the warning light did not come on.
Pidcocks are having the bike Saturday, all day, and I'll collect it Monday. Hopefully they'll find something.
As for the 01s, wet this morning so not a lot of chance to try them. But no problems coming home. They've done about 300miles so are well run in. I may take a ride up into the Peaks next week and find some twisties.
First impression, no problem, feel good.

When you fitted the bar risers does that require you to move or juggle the switchgear and was that about the time you first saw the light.
