BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

I have recently had an unrecognised warning come up on the on-board computer screen next to the BC icon. The warning is a small <!>. Once it is on it stays on but if I turn off the ignition it goes off and may stay off for the rest of the ride.

I've looked on-line and through the Rider's manual but I can't find any reference to the warning. I did a lot of miles in the week, maybe 1,000'ish and when I checked the oil it needed a top it up. However, I hadn't had any low oil warning on the bike so it wasn't getting to a critically low level. That was the only thing I could think off that the <!> might refer to.

Any ideas?

My 2006 K1200GT used to do something similar.&nbsp; Turned out to be a duff oil level sensor.&nbsp; Not sure if the '09 RT is prone to the same thing.&nbsp; At least the oil level is easier to check

When the <!> symbol + "Oil" appear on the display, the engine oil level is too low.

As above, if the <!> symbol is appearing on it's own & a physical check of the oil level is ok, then perhaps the oil level sensor might be defective or too sensitive.

If "Oil" is selected to be displayed in the BC area, when the engine is hot, running & in neutral, is the "tick" symbol shown where - - - appears in the photo.



A "Google Search" comes up with similar problems reported on other forums.

The oil level switch does look a bit primitive, the fact that the float can be purchased separately is interesting.

<!> is the low oil level symbol.

The Rider's Manual says, "The oil sensor might be defective if the "Check oil level" message appears even though a check at the oil sight glass reveals that the oil level is correct."

Yes the [size=2px]<!> is the low oil level symbol.[/size]
