SWMBO, who has had plenty of pheasant near misses, says better your head light than your head.
I don't seem to have the same problems as Anne does.
They seem to wait for her to get near and then take off in a random direction. Luckily all misses so far.

I hit a pheasant some years ago in Wales on my R100RT and it just clipped the top corner of the screen.  I though I had got away with it until I got home and found it had cracked the screen at one of the two mounting brackets a the bottom.  My garden is full of the buggers over-spilling from a local shoot.  I ought to be eating them daily to make an impression!

Yup it could have been much worse. The surprising thing is how thin the lens is. Makes me think that a stone could easily break the lens. Think I will have to invest in a lens cover and hope it gives the headlight some protection. My headlight unit contains daylight running LEDs so a new unit is going to cost £720. I will do the work myself.

Ouch, any chance of getting a new unit via a breaker?  No, thought not.

I caught a pheasant with my old 1300GT.  Only doing about 50 when it shot out of the hedge and I got enveloped in a  cloud of feathers.  Pheasant disappeared though and it was a little way up the road when I started wondering why feathers kept flying up from the headstock.  Stopped to investigate and there he was, wrapped around the suspension on top of the front mudguard, having dinged the oil cooler on the way.  Blood and guts everywhere.  What followed was pure Basil Fawlty as I ripped the remains out and, too mangled to eat, booted the carcass over the hedge.  Then I needed to clean my boots too.....  Headlight was fine though.  The fine fellows down at CW tried very hard not too laugh, but failed.

Joking apart, like you I soon realised it was a lucky escape.  Glad you are okay, if a bit poorer.

Sorry to hear your tale.
I can sympathise. In 2003 I had my shiny new Oilhead and suffered a Pheasant strike. It hit my windscreen. The screen did not break. However, the mounting arms deformed, the drive motor assembly was destroyed and cost a lot to repair.

Is that the front of a Lynx helicopter. I'm retired now but in another life spent my time flying airliners. Had a few bird strikes including one down an engine. The damage birds can cause always amazes me.

It's a Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel. But we had a few spares!!

Got new headlight unit from Chandlers Brighton this afternoon. Bike is back together again. The headlight unit comes with bulbs installed. Here are a few photos. Just waiting for headlight protector.

Looks good, but for that money I would expect a bit of gold plating at least!
