the coating of my wheel (rims) is letting loose

Hi forum colleagues,
My R1200RT from 2006 is still looking good, except for the parts where the coating is letting loose (especcialy the back rim).
What can I do myself to improve the looks of it? Or shoot i bring the rims (and the "metal" side plates) to a firm to have it cleaned (sand-papered) and have it powder coated again. (and what will the costs be more or less). Please help me out. The reason it let's loose, might be caused by the fact that I ride my bike winter and summertime, and the winter salt is eating the coating >:( .
Thanks,
Wouter
