Would it not be easier and cheaper to polish out and / or respray?

+2, and also invest in some protector film from Nippy Normans.

What year bike and painted or black portion of lid?
If black portion consider bmw’s plastic lid protectors they fit 14 and up
Painted portion as others have said clear film after a good buffing

I had a similar problem and had the lid repainted. A small local spray shop did it and had the paint mixed at a place in Middlewich - it is a perfect match. I had the top box sprayed at the same time and from memory only paid £200 for the lot.

Not sure how well the experience translates, but on this side of the pond ... I just finished having both saddlebags and 49L top-case repainted for $385 USD. Color match is perfect. Did same with same shop five years ago and it was $300 USD then. They said "cost of paint has gone up". Still not a bad deal IMO.
