2012 R1200RT Rear Sidecase slightly loose

I'm the third owner of my 2012 RT, only 20,000 miles. Seems very well kept condition. No crashes, etc.
I do notice the right side bag is a bit looser on the mountings than the other side. The left side is more solid. Not a vast difference, but noticeable if I pull on them.
I checked the mounts on the bike and they are secure. There seems some play in that small peg, which moves up to attach the bag via bag handle.
Is this normal wear or should I check for any loose bolts that I can't see externally?

My 25k miles '06 RT, which I think uses the same pannier system, has the same issue but with the left-hand one - a little bit more movement than the right! I checked everything checkable, including the 'tab/peg' that slots up into the pannier base, but couldn't find anything untoward at all. I've just done a 350-mile round trip, full luggage and daughter aboard, and some of the roads were very bumpy indeed - nothing fell off or felt any worse once home!

Right, I'm pretty sure you have the same bag step up.
Good to hear, I'll be clocking about a 1,000 round trip next week by my self. Using side cases and a waterproof duffel.
I do think the side cases will stay secure.

Its probably just 'how they are'.
Funnily enough, I used the small BMW 28ltr topbox on my previous bike, a 1200ST. I've re-keyed the lock barrel, and now use it on the RT. On the ST, it fitted onto the rack snugly, no free play or movement side-to-side or up and down. On the RT (for which the same topbox could be specced from new), there's quite noticeable side-to-side play. There's nothing worn that I can see, and certainly no missing component. It can't ever come adrift because of the way it locks into place.

I had a similar problem on my twin-cam bike.
The rising bar that extends out of the pannier and into a 'socket' on the underside of the tail bodywork is essentially 'too short'. On the top of that rising bar is a right-angled plastic fitting. These fittings are available in a kit of 3 different thicknesses, to make the fitment into the socket tighter or looser. See this RealOEM parts diagram:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=46_1367
It's part 22 on the diagram. You need part number 46547712002 'set of clamps with bracket'. If I remember correctly, there are 2x thin, 2x normal and 2x thick fittings in the kit - enough for both panniers.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for that info - just ordered a set at £4.62! I've been looking at the topbox parts to see if there's anything similar for it - nothing seems to be missing or adjustable though.

Nice one,
Another example of how helpful this forum is and another reason to lament its demise should it occur.

Where did you order these? Looked online, found a few, more pricey than yours with very hefty shipping. Either states or EU.
Thanks

I double checked the part number here -
https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike-spare-parts/ - and yep, silly shipping at £12.64 and a 'low order fee' of £6 on top of that! So I simply phoned my local BMW car dealership (just up the road, more convenient than the Motorrad one) and ordered them from there.
