Did my own oil/filter change on my 2012 R1200RT. (Which I recently purchased)
The filter wrench I borrowed was for a filter with a series of 'flats'. (I assumed this was correct)
The new BMW filter I got had more a series of grooves on the base. ???
Nevertheless, I was able to tighten new one on using the incorrect wrench.
BTW, The old filter I removed was an aftermarket type with a 17mm hex on the bottom, so I realized none of this till the old filter was off!
So I suppose I had better find/buy the grooved style wrench?
Two different Oil Filter styles?

Was the old filter a K&N type, https://www.knfilters.co.uk/search/prod ... rod=KN-164raider57 wrote:The old filter I removed was an aftermarket type with a 17mm hex on the bottom.
Got both a genuine BMW filter and a HiFlo HF164, http://www.hiflofiltro.com/catalogue/filter/hf164 for a 2012 TC. They both have 12 grooves on the base and are 76mm dia.raider57 wrote:The new BMW filter I got had more a series of grooves on the base.
This is the wrench which fits, marked up as 76/12, https://www.nippynormans.com/r1200rt-20 ... 13-k1200rsraider57 wrote:So I suppose I had better find/buy the grooved style wrench?
