I saw these and didn't like the price, so I just bought a sheet of metal grill on ebay, cut and bent it to shape and placed inside the existing housing. It's not glued or screwed in but has sat there quite happily without moving for the last 12 months - all for just a few £'s.
Just search ebay for "Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh"

Not my idea (stolen from another forum) but I bought a foam filter/sleeve for a Shop Vac and cut it to fit between the plastic bodywork and the oil cooler.

It cost me less than $10 CAD and took maybe 15 minutes to cut out and tweak the shape to fit. I used the template in the PDF installation instructions for the expensive Wunderlich screen/cover for a starting point. No hardware required to mount, it's just sandwiched in there.

Looks good, can easily be washed/rinsed when dirty (bugs/debris), provides a layer of protection for the oil cooler, and has ABSOLUTELY NO AFFECT ON RUNNING TEMPERATURE.

I rode in 41*C / 106*F heat this summer with ZERO problems. If it ever was an issue, it pops out in literally 2 seconds...

Have to agree with any alternative, since all works just as well.
Just like any Wunderlich, the grill protector is way over priced!
But...decided to get one. Works well, fits like the right size glove!
And looks good also, almost like it is factory installed.
Would like to mention that BMW will void warranty if anything
is placed in front of the radiator, including this protector. I don't
see any problem that it can cause, other then protecting the rad.
In case a rock hits it, will cost a fortune to replace, which is just fine
for BMW!

I was going to mount a camera under the headlight but as suspension fork travel is 4 inch there would be a risk of it hitting the mudguard if I hit a hole in the road. Does yours have more clearance?

I wouldnt put one there myself. I have another ram mount next to my satnav on tbe bar over the clocks. I also have a strong suction cup for my go pro that clamps to the side of my fairing.
