Tank bags

Hi, I have a "new to me" 2005 R1200RT, and I'm finding the price of the BMW tank bag just a little bit too expensive..

My bike has the mounting rail on top of the tank. What other options are there that people are using (if any)  I already have a good selection of bags, magnetic & bagster ones that I've used over the years.

I'm thinking about ones of the type that fit into a locking ring that mounts on the fuel filler, anyone using that type ?

I can't be the only one who thinks that £180-£200 for a tank bag is a bit OTT

I use an SW Motech 'Ion' tankbag, which is quite small but perfectly-sized for mobile phone, visor-cleaning stuff, spare gloves and the like. It also has a clear pocket on top, not big enough for a map really, but fine for route cards if you're doing old-tech! It clips onto a tankring. You can obviously get bigger ones - I got rid of my genuine BMW one as it was too big - I don't like big luggage at the front, I use my panniers and small topbox or tailpack for the bulk of my touring stuff.

I attach it to my 2007 RT by using their universal bag mount, which I have attached so that it's mostly concealed by the factory fit BMW mount, this way it doesn't move around too much or look obtrusive on the bike.

Recently, using an eyelet kit for less than a tenner, converted a magnetic tank bag to a tail pack secured with bungees, https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/draper- ... gKt9fD_BwE, might be an option with an existing tank bag.

Not a great photo but I mounted my Bagster Easy Harness under the factory fit bag mount and then just clipped over it.

Thanks for the baglux info, I'll get that as it's only £44 and will allow me to use my old faithful bagster tank bag :-)

+1 for this bag. Just right for the small essentials, travel docs., mobile phone, water bottles etc. Plus it comes with a handy integral carry handle and a detachable shoulder strap.👍👍

Do you know which tank rig fitting kit is for the 2005 R1200RT I can't seem to see it listed. They show the BF-17 for the GS of the same year ???

Looking at RealOEM, the filler cap for a 2005 GS is the same part no. as that for a 2005 RT, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part?id ... 6117685458

Therefore, there is a good chance the BF17 will fit an RT.

As posted by others above, SW-MOTECH (formerly Bags Connection) do a "tankring" system for pre-LC RT's, here's a review, http://www.airheadmoto.com/reviews/2014 ... ion-review

Hi, yes where did you get that link from ?

Ah, just seen it, it's for the 2013 LC model, which I believe is different than the 2005 model's that use the mounting rail.
