Hi Dave, and welcome to the Forum.
BMW recalled a lot of 1200s, the RT included, to replace the fuel pump mounting flange. My 1200ST was one of the bikes affected - around 6 weeks prior to getting the 'safety campaign' letter, asking me to book it in for the work, I started getting a whiff of petrol fumes when stationary, or in slow-moving traffic. I'd assumed it was from vehicles nearby, rather than from my crotch area! :wonder: Anyway, flange replaced....smell gone....even though the service guy told me the issue (porous/cracking original-type flange?...I can't remember) would never cause any fumes! A quick call to a dealer with the reg. no. will tell you if it's been done - if it has, I'd be looking at the filler-cap seal, and then under the plastics at the quick-release connectors onto the pump. Oh, any chance you overfilled and spilt some around the filler neck?

Silly question I know, but was the filler cap closed fully. Shortly after I had my 1200 I had the same problem and discovered that though the cap appeared closed, it was not. Give if a bump with your hand.

Good point! Mine sometimes needs an extra-firm push too.heathy65 wrote: Silly question I know, but was the filler cap closed fully. Shortly after I had my 1200 I had the same problem and discovered that though the cap appeared closed, it was not. Give if a bump with your hand.
