1250 Fuel consumption

Do any of the fortunate few who have replaced a R1200RT with a R1250RT have a feel for any difference in fuel consumption ?

I believe my wet head is very slightly better in that regard than my air cooled RTs, but from what I've read in magazines etc I think the shiftcam engine might have reversed that trend.

I have ridden a R1250GS which definitely felt quicker than my RT, but I got the impression that it was also a little thirstier.

I think my 1250 is doing 4-5 MPG less than my previous 1200. But it could be that i am riding it more enthusiastically. Plus it’s not fully run in yet either.

Thanks for the response.
The 1250 engine does seem to encourage "enthusiastic" riding, and all my RTs have got better with miles.

I'm the same as Dave - I'm getting high 40s whereas I was getting mid to low 50s for my 2012 model. But I have not had it long, first service today so may improve with miles - other vehicles I've owned have

Only done 44 miles so far, but my range estimates seem the same as my 1200. Any new engine will give better fuel consumption once loosened up and when the drive train is loosened. There is a thread at the moment on LT Forum about the fuel consumption and it seems general view is, its the same unto around 70, but drops if you start to do more spirited riding. Not that bothered, love the engine :)

I've covered circa 800 miles now and the fuel consumption is getting better but still only an average of 51mpg

To be honest I'm not bothered at all about fuel consumption as long as its not stupidly low :)

I’m obviously not riding too enthusiastically as I’m getting 56 MPG as opposed to 60 - 61 on the older model. Must try harder.

Hi

I am getting 54 miles per gallon on my new 1250RT, with 1000 miles on the clock.

Hi again

On a long run from Devon to Leicestershire and back, I obtained 61mpg.  Bike has now covered 3000 miles, and averages 54 mpg.

I've done about 1700 miles and have averaged 63 mpg. Mix of motorway/ dual carriageway and twisties in the hills, very little urban.  Seems to be better consumption than my previous 1200RS.  I do tend to stick to speed limits, except for safety purposes when overtaking....

Wow - 63mpg is very impressive !

I'm currently sitting on 59.3, which is great in my opinion and better than I saw on any of my air-cooled RTs.

What's the tank range on a an LC out of curiosity?...  I've rode with quite a few LC's and they're usually looking for fuel long before I've even thought about checking my fuel gauge on the TC. (varied riding on A,B roads & Motorways)

R1200RT covered 15,000 miles over 3 years and I got just under 52mpg and on the R1250RT covered 3,000 miles and got just over 53mpg... So pretty much seems the same for me! Range to reserve is normally 250 miles and close to 300 before dry!  Peter
