Nav on 2016 RT

Post by horand »

Hi

Can anyone recommend the Wunderlich Nav V sunshade on a 2016 RT.
Presently with the sun shining I cannot see anything on my Nav V!
Is it worth buying or are there any other options to overcome this problem.
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks
David

Maybe sell your Nav 5 and get a 6?

I have to admit that's what I did. No regrets
I was born with nothing and unfortunately I still have most of it left.

Thank You Both
Does the Nav 6 have a shade incorporated into the unit?

Thats what I did as well, no sun shade much a different screen that you can read in the sun. Your Nav V, will be worth around £300 depending on condition.

I fitted a Glarestomper to my Nav V and that was cheaper than upgrading to a VI.  Think it was about £15 in 2015.

I wear glasses and used to have issues seeing the Nav V screen, the VI is a step up and I haven't not been able to view it all through last summer. Guess in some circumstances you might have issues, but I haven't been disappointed. But try some anti glare first as suggested, even if you get £300 for your Nav V, your still looking at another £270 to upgrade. You could look for a used unit, there are often quite a few for sale on  the UKGSER forum. But be aware that if buying used, the warranty is via BMW and you need a proof of purchase, Garmin will always send you to BMW for issues during the warranty period as its a BMW supplied unit with a BMW part number.

Definitely don't buy a used Nav 6. They're plagued with problems (google it for  further information) and if you haven't got a BMW warranty, you might regret the purchase. I'm on my second new unit in 18 months and that's now showing signs of  failure.

Well I'm 12 months in with my Nav VI and haven't had a single issue. But you do get a 2 years warranty. What issues have you had then?

The only issues I've had with mine are heat related....... I think. In sweltering heat last year in Italy I put it in the lockable cubby hole at front of bike. It wouldn't start up for ages after. Lesson learnt.

Then last week travelling to and around Dinant in Belgium it switched itself off a few times but restarted automatically.

Then I was told to turn onto the E42, 42 42 42 42 42 42 42 42 42 ...................... I think you get the picture.

Apart from that it's great.

The main problem is the screen becoming unresponsive and gaining a mind of its own. BMW are well aware of the problems and are quick to replace the units, however, without a warranty from BMW you might struggle.
Here is one thread on the problem.https://advrider.com/f/threads/problems-with-navigator-vi.1273007/

That's not true in the U.S.  Garmin takes care of the issue themselves.
