Clunky Gear change,

Morning all
I recently did an oil change on my 16 RT (17.5k) I used genuine BMW filter but due to the extortionate price of the Advantage oil i opted for the mainly second best option of Castrol Edge Titanium 5/40,Now for some reason changing gear mainly 1-2-2-3 has become a bit agricultural.I know most will say that i should have gone for the OEM but i had a voucher for Halfords so it seemed like a no brainier.
So i was wondering if i need to drop the oil and empty my wallet for the Advantage or is there some other alternative

From the Rider's Manual, the oil spec. is SAE 5W-40, API SL / JASO MA2, let the search begin.

Hi I think that Castrol Edge Titanium 5/40 is a car diesel engine oil? In which case it will have additives that may cause your clutch plates to stick together.
If you are using the clutch to change and also when stationary engaging a gear would be more difficult.

It certainly is, not MA-Approved for use with wet clutches.

Damage may already have been done then If its soaked into the clutch then it may never recover without being taken apart and cleaned.
If you are lucky dropping the oil and refilling with motorcycle specific oil and a new oil filter may make it better.

The only BMW where car oil is OK are the dry clutch models. Hopefully if the oil hasn't been in there too long then maybe a change with filter will rescue the situation. Here is a company where you can get the original Castrol oil that was OEM before BMW changed to Shell.

The BMW oil filter part no. is 11427721779, this is cross-referenced with Hiflo HF160 & Mahle OC619. Both these filters are of equivalent spec. to OEM at a fraction of the cost.

The oils been in about 2 weeks with about 100 mlie of riding ,I'll drop it this afternoon then hopefully get the right stuff from Motorworks over the hill in Holmfirth, and crossed fingers that nothing too drastic has happened :wonder:
