hi al
my 2010 rt has developed a problem where the engine when idling suddenly surges to very high revs. once it surges to 5000rpm i hit the kill switch to avoid engine damage.
i can reduce the surge and get the engine back to idle speed by rotating the throttle back past the usual throttle stop.
i've read lots of forum posts but i haven't found anybody reporting these exact symptons. i've seen a few reports of engines surging erratically between 1000 and 2000 rpm.
engine surge
Re: engine surge
I had/have the same issue, appears to be when the engine is warm/hot and pushing the throttle back seems to stop it. It's so infrequent at the moment I haven't bothered looking into it as it would be nearly impossible to replicate. It has also happened while in motion resulting in a loss of engine braking.

thanks graham88
my bikes issue is not temperature related. the fault exists irrespective of temperature.
