I've always had the service on my 2015 R1200RT done by a BMW certified shop, (West Side Motor Sports, Spokane, WA. USA). Since I live about a 3 hour drive/ride from the shop, I decided to do regular maintenance my self; oil and filter, air filter and final drive fluid change, spline lube. Simple stuff. Also have a GS-911 for fault examinations (works quite well).
Just got through changing the final drive fluid and discovered that, while the recommended replacement volume is, (by BMW) 180 ml for in service bikes, (no drive gear replacement, etc.) I just drained out only 45 ml. There was no sign of leakage and I had it on the recommended service schedule. Seems like the shop didn't put in the total volume that is recommended. Again, no leakage indicated over the past riding season, (about 1400 miles since last service). The drained fluid was a bit darker that the new fluid I put in and no particulate on the mag drain plug. Still.....one might want to beware of "authorized BMW mechanics" results. My lessons learned: double check and question so called shop experts and don't go back to West Side Motor Sports, Spokane, WA.
Cheers from the Okanogan Highlands of WA. State, USA.

Re: Final Drive Maintenance
That must have been a very disappointing discovery.
Have you told the Service Manager ? He should know, and it would be interesting to hear his response.

Re: Final Drive Maintenance
Because it’s so darn easy, I change mine at each oil change
Do your bike a favor, check out DIMPLE MAGNETIC drain plugs
I run both the engine and final drive plugs

Re: Final Drive Maintenance
I have a new to me 2016 RTW. Are the specs on the plugs consistent through the years? I live over 300 miles from my dealer!
