Anyone able to recommend a solution to carrying extra fuel for a planned trip to somewhere wild later this year. '16 1200RT. 10L would be good, maybe even more. Is it just strap a can to the passenger seat or are there better solutions out there? Is there a jerry can that fits nicely in a pannier? Or will that play around too much with the balance?
And for the avoidance of doubt, I'm assuming that each 5L should be good for c.50 miles. Anyone disagree?

You should google "IBA extra fuel R1200RT" and you will find various solutions. IBA = Iron Butt Association

Re: Carrying extra fuel
If I do 240 miles from full it generally takes around 20 litres, unless I am racing down autobahns or going from traffic light to traffic light in town.
So, I would expect to get more like 60 miles from 5 litres of fuel. 50 miles is only 45mpg which is easy to better on an RT.
Good luck with the extra fuel !
