Does anyone have an MOT due today or after 30th March 2020,

Unless the Coronavirus social distancing measures are lifted first, I'll be checking mine from 18th May 2020 onwards.

I believe that if the vehicle MOT has already expired or it's due the first test after 3 years, then MOT's can be booked as normal. Can anyone confirm this is correct, thank you.

A friend has just checked his car MOT, was due on 3rd April 2020, now extended to 3rd October 2020.

Has anyone else got a free 6 months MOT extension.

I would guess that most people on this forum are pretty conscientious about car and bike maintenance so the 6 month extension won't have to much impact.


However I suspect that there's a reasonable number of "rust bucket" owners out there that are rubbing their hands together at the prospect of keeping their likely MOT failure on the road for another 6 months.

The gentleman in question did want to take his 2013 car for test, the testing station was closed. He is very proficient with maintenance but still wanted an expert (not professional) to carry out what is a safety check on items which he does not have the skills or equipment to check himself. Once the lockdown is lifted, he intends to take the car for test prior to the new extended expiry date.

Unless things change in a hurry, I'll be taking advantage of the MOT extension on my RT. It's only done 36 miles since it was last serviced in October 2019. Hasn't moved since.

My XJ650 will be MOT exempt in July 2020, I may still continue to take it for an MOT every now an then as a safety check, but perhaps not every year.

GOV.UK says, "Your vehicle’s MOT expiry date will be automatically extended by 6 months if it’s eligible. This will be done about 7 days before it’s due to expire."

Thought I'd check mine today and hey presto, I've now got an MOT valid until 18 November 2020 for free. That'll get me through this season.

The 6 month extension on Mot's is ending 1st of August.

My Yamaha XJ650 will be 40 years old tomorrow 30th June 2020, won't need any more MOT's.

Motorhome, wife's car, and my Fazer have all been extended. My car, due on 28 July, has not.....yet?

Fear not, it can sometimes run all the way to a week before until the DVLA change the date, my wife's car was still showing as needing an MOT 7 days before the due date, checked back the following morning and it had changed to November.

My car is due on the 25th July and that hasn't changed yet, car booked in for service and MOT on Friday

From 1st August MOT will revert back to normal, i.e. no 6 month extension since all garages are open. Might change in Leicester though!
