1250RT vs 1250RS Exclusive

1250RT vs 1250RS Exclusive

Has anyone put the RT up against the RS? the RS is about 80lb lighter, I would like some riding impressions,
Thoughts on euro touring the RS against the RT?
Does the RS really feel much lighter on the road and pushing around the garage?
Riding position? Heard the RS is cramped?

Cheers

I've had a test ride, it does feel lighter, but that is also because you haven't got as much plastic around you. I would have one if my good lady decided she didn't want to tour anymore. I would also have to fit some bar risers as it was a bit on the wrists for me. I am 5ft 8 and didn't find it cramped :) Just take one out

Not the 1250 RS but I had the previous  R1200RS out for the day as a loan bike. Overall I would say say that I was impressed how comfortable it was despite the slightly sporting ergonomics, I'm 6ft 2 and didn't feel cramped. Perhaps due to lack of bulk it felt very manoeuvrable through busy traffic.
The only let down for me was the protection from screen which needed to be taller.

Would it be ok for a European tour? For me yes but would probably stick a screen spoiler on it.

As Casbar mentioned, taking one out for an extended test ride is probably the best way forward. If you do let us know what you think.

Rode both before buying my 1250RT.

I did not like the RS TFT display (everyone else loves it, I'm told!).  The RS is (or seems) a bit nippier around the lanes and the general ride is good.  I did notice the lighter weight, but then I had a K1600GTL at the time and the even the RT feels much lighter!

The RS screen is too small for me and I like the electrical adjustment on the RT.  The main issue, though, was the riding position - my wrists and shoulders were aching after about an hour.  I  am "average" size (5ft 10in) and the RT is so much more comfortable.  As such, I just feel a lot safer riding it, even though the RS was good fun (until the pain set in).

So, having ridden both on an extended test ride, over a good mix of roads, I plumped for the 1250RT (put my money where my mouth is, so to speak).

However, everyone is different and the only real way to know what is best for you is to try them both, as others have mentioned.

Hi

I think this is a really good question, what is the best bike to have next if you need a lighter bike.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, I no longer carry pillions, and managing the 1250RT just fine at the moment at age 68! but have mates older that have downsized, still love the whole 1250RT package, but may well schedule a road test on the 1250RS soon, just to see how they compare  :)

Bar risers make a lot of difference.
