Hi all - excited to join the beemer family and introduce myself to the forum. After a decade riding a dual-sport, decided to up my comfort game. For years, I have had my eyes on various R1200RT-Ps on auction sites, craigslist, and even dealers. Most are as feared - slash and burn the electronics out, holes in the fairing, clutch on its last leg.
Then a week ago, after randomly searching CL for "R1200RT" I found the below. A 2009 RTP with 22,000 kms from my local PD. Upon further review - the dealer had performed a full decomissioning (at the city's expense) and returned the bike to stock RTP form - including replacing any plastics with holes, and properly removing all accessory wiring back to the switch. A review of the service history was shocking...less than 4k kms on the bike in the last 4 years; 2 20k services, just total silliness. I took her for a ride, tried as hard as I could to make the clutch slip (couldn't),brought back to the dealers and literally put on a white linen glove and touched every seam, seal and gasket I could find - nada.
So today, I'm excited to join this crowd with what I believe to be a Unicorn of an ex-police bike...my new-ish 2009 R1200RT-P!
