Well doing a headlight is such fun. Big hands tiny places.  but we have it apart waiting on bulb

Well it was replaced but no fun.  How in the world do they expect you to hold up that wire retaining clip and place the bulb in a fix spot.  But any how

Roll on LED headlights. Then when they fail will cost an arm and a leg to fix. Progress don't you love it.

I've swapped the bulbs once on my RT, I think next time I'll be asking my Daughter to swap the actual bulb with her more dainty hands!!! 

Ah the good old days when my little Yammy used to blow its 6v 25w bulb. One screw to undo, one rubber seal to pull, one half turn and bulb out.  Why do BMW have to complicate a pretty regular service item as a bulb replacement. Just another thing, I could change the plug in 20 seconds too.

you have to buy a completely new unit. It would be so easy just to buy a lens, a seal and fit with a few screws. If you want complicated then you have this.

I'm guessing that replacement was not cheap either:-(

For sure cannot remember the exact cost but was something between £620 - £720. What was so annoying was that apart from the broken lens the rest of the headlight unit was fine. What took me back a little is how thin the plastic lens is. When you consider its quite a large flat unsupported area its really not that very strong. I now have a headlight protector.

Just convinced me to order a headlight protector as a Christmas present to myself.

The one I got was from R&G. Held in place with 3M pads. Easy to take off for cleaning. Will it protect the headlight from a bird strike who knows but it might from flying stones.

Nippy Normans selling protectors for £29- bargain to save £700 plus for potential headlight replacement for a wayward stone, or insect.

this subject has come up so often. So many threads about farkles and what people consider important.The headlight protector is pretty much up there as most important. So many people have experienced their headlight lens becoming micro pitted (let alone smashed).
So yes, get yourself some sort of headlight protection.

I never new.  Guess I’ve been riding those airheads to long. But I can see how it would protect the headlight from damage. Wondering if you get wind noise from it.
