STD Seat vs High Seat (2014+)

Post by speedy »

This might have already been covered but I was unable to find it with the search function....Does anyone know the difference in the high RT seat and the regular RT seat (2014+)? Is it just extra padding that gives it the additional height or is it constructed differently/a different pan that gives the higher seating position?I also have an XR and the high seat on that bike is really just the standard pan with more padding, which in turn makes it more comfortable.Long story short, I'm looking for a bit more padding, otherwise the standard seat is good for me.TIA

Just looks like extra padding.

I recently bought a used high comfort seat which is much better. I can stomach 40 minutes or so on the standard one whereas  the thicker padding on the high seat is good for a couple of hours before a break. Would highly recommend the higher seat, although I don't  know if it can come heated.

I have the 'high' seat. I ordered it when I specified my first new RTLC in 2016 and have swapped it from bike to bike onto my new (3rd) RT. It's the same seat base, just thicker padding. I find it very comfortable and the extra legroom is welcome. It is the heated version.
I had Touratech Kahedo seats on my previous hexhead and twincam RTs. I was primed to buy them for the LC, but I find the factory high seat to be fine for me and haven't felt it necessary to buy more Kahedos.

The  Low seat has minimal padding, its like sitting on a plank.

Thanks for the info guys/gals.

That is very helpful and kind of what I expected...but really glad to have my guess confirmed before I invest.

I bought a high seat yesterday on e-bay.  Given the time of year and the typical COVID excuses, it'll probably be a month before it arrives...but it's winter so no big deal.  I look forward to giving it a try.  Again, thanks to those that provided input on this...

Let us know how it goes. I expect it will be positive.

I have a 2018 R1200RT, which came with the standard height seat. That was a bit too tall for me; I could stand on the balls of my feet, but it was difficult to push back. So, I ordered the OEM low seat. That's perfect in terms of being able to stand flat-footed, but the padding is really not comfortable after 1/2 hour. I now have the Sargent low seat with OEM heating. I must say this is the Goldilocks seat of the three. I highly recommend it.
