I have seen a couple of mentions on 'not being able to open a gas cap'
Is there any aftermarketeers that sell a mechanical replacement gas cap for a 1250 RT?

It takes around 2 mins if the cap sticks to whip the screws out the front and release the cap. If it sticks, just get it replaced under warranty. Apparently the replacement caps do not stick

I am trying to understand what you mean by whip the screws out of the front? Do you have to remove all the screws around the cap? Or do you mean you only need to remove a couple in the front? And by front do you mean closest to the rider or in front of the cap?

Found this on the R1200R Forum,
https://www.r1200rforum.com/threads/key ... pen.33593/
"The two bolts at the top of the filler cap surround can be undone in an emergency and the top part lifted off - this will allow the cap to be opened".

Just remember you have to put it all together at the same time, not like I did, took the screws out, opened the cap, then put the screws back in and then found the cap wouldn't shut, so had to undo the screws again and assemble together with the cap pushed down

If the cap won't shut, this video may show the problem,

When I dismantled mine, the sliding bit didn't have a pin, so it was either gone or it is a different mechanism now. Eitherway, once you you take the two front screws out, no matter what you do with that sliding bit, the cap won't shut with the front screws back in. I had to assemble the whole thing together, with the cap pushed down and then do the screws up. All fixed now and working ok

"FYI.. SSR is telling us that they completely out of stock and awaiting an all new shipment of caps. They tell me around Feb 1st, 2021! Will update as information comes in. We suggest you wait and check back with us in February before ordering."
Pirates' Lair also say,
"In case you are curious... No.. the quality of SSR caps are NOT as good as the Oberon version hence the price difference, although they look identical."
Could always try an Oberon stockist,

Wow, David, thanks, this is great news...do you happen to know if they have a gas-cap specifically for the 1250RT?
Then, I hope there isn't a code that comes up on the computer cause on yanks that electronic gas cap...whose idea was that anyways: and electronically operated gas cap...sounds as weird as a keyless motorcycle, don't it?
The anxiety of wondering when the fob batt is gonna go out and whether or not the gas cap is gonna open at the next top leaves something to be said for the 'stone-age'. :bate: 8)

"The GCBX2 cap (pics at top) fits the 2014+ BMW K1600GT / K1600GTL/ Bagger / Grand America, R1200GS 2013+, R1200GS Adventure 2014+, R1250GS, R1250 GS Adventure, S1000XR (all years), R1200RT LC 2014 +, R1250RT, R1200R / R1200RS 2015 + / For those bikes with the keyless ride option (electronic locking fuel cap)... it is just a simple swap. When you remove the electronic one, you'll obviously lose the keyless controls."
