Horning make a cable to harness the mirror to the bike if it comes away from its mount by collision or shock, such as a pothole.

According to the description it covers โ€˜05-โ€˜13, are they necessary for the LC models as well?

OR, just use a zip-tie.  Just make sure it's loose enough to still pop the mirror out a bit to cut the tie if you need to remove the mirror for any reason.

This thread on BMWMOA, https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.ph ... r-fell-off also suggests that on a Wethead,
"the mirrors are supposed to be tethered to the bike so they can't fall to the ground".

It seems the mirrors may be but the covers arenโ€™t, I knocked the n/s one off when I caught it with my elbow in the garage yesterday.

Get a bit of wire and 2 blue ring crimps, crimp them up and you have your tether. Strong enough to hold mirrors anyway.

:)  Yep, I'd thought about some 25-30lb breaking strain plastic coated wire used on fishing traces plus a couple of the wire crimps used to secure the loops. It's flexible, light, and strong enough to do the job.

Gotta say again:  a couple of zip ties and you're done.  Quick, simple and cheap.  The assembly is not very heavy.  With any of the DIY tethers proposed here, you can't make it too long or loose or when it pops off it will hang and bang your faring at motorway speeds;  too short and it'll be difficult to snip the zip if you need to remove the mirror assembly.
