I have been looking about for some engine bars for my 2016 RT
I have seen the ilium bars and like the way they sit as they leave the casings free for maintenance plus I have genuine head covers and was planning on leaving these on
The trouble is they are twice as much as others :-X
Does anyone know of any other bars that will fit with the head covers fitted?

Yes I have seen heed bars and I agree they are a good price too
I was contemplating the wunderlich bars but I don't believe you can use head protectors with them

After my recent experience I can say that Heed bars not necessary will be enough for your engine.
I was hit in the rear when I was fully stationery, but it wasn't anywhere light hit. I was ejected to the air.
Bars took a lot, they bent and obviously have scratches. However cylinder covers also took damage.
I do not have any scratches on paint, nor damaged fairing. However I can't confirm what will happen if I didn't had the bars.
If you plan buy Heed, buy also cylinder head protectors/ covers.

I went to order the heed bars! They don't have an option to post to the UK a bit of googling shows they have stopped posting to the UK since brexit :-X
I have also notice that you have to buy extra brackets for the auxiliary lights

I think they did the job. Not fully as I expected, but acceptable.
What I'm saying they should be paired with head cover protectors.

For Heed you don't have to do that. BMW ones still can be fitted without any additional brackets.

Warning! The crash bars cannot be installed with the original auxiliary lights. We have a special brackets for additional lights which can be installed on our crash bars[/size]

OK. I'm just telling you how it's done on my bike.
I have BMW spotlights on the original mounts, no extra brackets.
All mounted.

While it sounds good and I am sure I would figure it out and get them to work
Heed are no longer posting to the UK! I emailed them last night and they have suspended all post to the UK and it may be added to the list at the end of the month!

I have just fitted Wunderlich bars. 2020 bike.

Quite happy overall

Yes I noticed they have a mount point for them which is good
Sadly they don't fit with engine covers on the bike

Do you still need the engine covers?

From my experience? I'd say yes. I explained that in one of my posts above.
However that apply to Heed, and I can say probably to Wunderlich as they are similar in construction.
Can't say anything about Ilium or any others available.
