Hi all,
did you have the problem that the fuel gauge didn't work for you and it's the old models with an electronic strip rather than a float? Mine failed to work when - rather inconveniently - the tank was less than ¼ full. There is a trick where you can use a piezo lighter electric charge to wake the faulty fuel strip up. Just did mine and it worked

has it all.
Took me about 20 min to do whilst procrastinating about ½ a year to actually get going giving it a shot.
Cheers!

Re: Fuel gauge strip
apparently there is now a OEM fix for this. Difficult to get hold of due to demand and won’t be a FOC replacement. It’s on back order, I’ve asked my local BMW workshop to let me know when it becomes available. I might try the piezo zapping technique but I’d feel more reassured with a pukka replacement.

Re: Fuel gauge strip
I have a 2009 RT which is getting a 'new design' fuel strip fitted in a couple of weeks
The parts manager said that BMW had improved the strip so the issues will not re-occur.
He didnt say what the 'improvements' were, but it does have a different part number. Costs $325 AUD plus fitting/ calibrating
I will see how it lasts
Cheers

Re: Fuel gauge strip
So highway robbery given that the original faulty design is causing the problem... I hope my 2011 model doesn't have a fuel strip.

Re: Fuel gauge strip
They changed to a fuel float in late 2010, so you shouldn't have a problem
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Re: Fuel gauge strip
I also have a 2011 which ran out of with 90 miles showing on the gauge. So don’t know if I have a strip or float.
I’am watching closely to see the best fix for this.
As I’m reading everything seems like a temporary or unreliable fix even with a new part.
So is this true Bmw has a new new part?

Re: Fuel gauge strip
My dealer told me the part (fuel strip) has been ' improved and updated ' to stop the issues that occured previously
It has a different part number as well
