A few months ago I bought the BMW Streetguard suit to replace an aging Rukka.


However it's definitely not as warm, the non-quilted liner seeming to be better suited for keeping me dry rather than keeping out the cold. I can pack on layers but this can lead to the sleeves feeling rather tight, so I guess the answer may be a heated waistcoat.


My options are the BMW version at about £225 or the Gerbing around £185/195, neither include the viable heat controller so add £50-ish on top.


Anyone have any opinions on either or options?

I've got an Alpinestars New Land jacket/pants and use Keis heated clothing. To make room for the heated kit, I removed the sleeved jacket liner. I started off with a Keis heated vest which has an open vee neck. I wasn't sure if the next level bodywarmer with a stand up collar would be too bulky, ended up buying one and it was ok. As I only wear a couple of thin base layers, I found that my arms got cold, therefore, went on to buy a full heated jacket with sleeves. I've also got Keis heated insoles as my feet get cold too.

One thing to note is that the Keis heat controllers are stepped, i.e. low, medium & high, not infinitely variable.

IMO, Keis is nice kit and if you are ok with the heat controller, then I would recommend it.

I've got the Gerbing heated waistcoat & it's great over winter! It keeps me nice and toasty warm on cold days of +2c and above. I use it with a Junior controller which are about £25, the controller has four settings and I've never needed to have it above the 2nd setting. The waistcoat has an aux socket inbuilt so you can plug socks or trousers in to it and control them using the same controller.

Keis seem to offer two vests, either £125 or £140, plus £35 for a controller.

Well, I went with their size guide and the result was a jacket liner that pretty much fitted my 5’3” wife…. I couldn’t even get it over my elbows.


So an XL waistcoat has now been ordered at £162 including the 10% first order discount, which I trust will be a much better fit, and comes with a free controller as part of a special offer.
