In Barcelona at the moment on a non bike city break. Every bank ATM I've tried wants to charge me 7 euros per withdrawal on a debit card. Is this a new post Brexit thing? I don't remember this charge being applied before..
I suppose just keep using the credit card to pay for everything.

Re: European ATM charges
I've just checked up on my potential charges from Nationwide Building Society for use of their Credit and Debit cards in France. According to their online info, for the Plus Account that I have with them there should be no charges from the Bank itself, however I believe some ATM's companies are themselves making a charge for the withdrawal.

Re: European ATM charges
Last month I did it the old way and went to the post office and took cash. No issues using my debit card for fuel, restaurants etc.

Mike, check your bank’s website to see if they waive fees at specific partner banks.
I’m in the US and the bank I use, Bank of America, allows fee-free debit card ATM withdrawals at Deutsche Bank (Germany and Spain),Barclays (UK),BNP Paribas (France),BNL d’Italia (Italy),etc.

when using ATMs outside the UK always choose the "local currency" conversion option, ie opt to withdraw 100 Euros and not £85. you will get a much better exchange rate
i recently got a Starling bank account to avoid debit card/ATM charges when in the EU, although you need to App to use the account, but they do issue a proper physical debit card

I used Starling for the first time in Spain last month and was very impressed. The app is great of keeping track of you cash. Dead easy to set up as well. I now use two Starling accounts which can be switched [linked] via the app to on debt card.

Re: European ATM charges
Chase also offer a current account with a mastercard debit card and no exchange fees, only app based but the app is pretty good.

Halifax Clarity card has no foreign transaction fees and decent exchange rate. I have used one for years

Re: European ATM charges
Along with cash i used a pre-paid credit card. The bonus is i can top it up at any time and there is no charges for overseas transactions.
