Wardrobe clear out!

Post by Steve398 »

Motorcyclists are horders of the worst sort, and that includes me! Just for interests sake, how many jackets and (pairs of) gloves do we have hidden away?

Personally I’ll admit to -

2 textile suits + cooling/windbreaker/heated liners
About 8 pairs of gloves
1 pairs of leather racing pants
3 pairs of boots
3 helmets

… despite that the Klim Marrakesh suit and Rukka Forsair gloves are my ‘go-to’ for almost every occasion. In my defence for such a meagre and miserable collection I got rid of a whole lot of stuff when I moved into riding for leisure from riding for a living, however my wardrobe capacity is pretty much halved as my wife has almost identical kit.

Anyone else care to confess, just so I don’t feel too guilty on my own?

It's not a competition, however, I've got 2 jackets + pants in the loft (3 in total) and 9 pairs of gloves in my bike kit storage area.

Does that make you feel any better Steve.

Prompted me to look. One set of leathers and at least two older textile suits besides my Oxford Mondial laminate suit. Several pairs of gloves both summer and winter plus they have all just been joined by a Held Jakarta mesh jacket yesterday. Got fed up with melting in the Mondial jacket. Oh and two pairs of riding jeans.

OK, I’m no longer feeling guilty!

My wife is horse mad, and explained when we first met that it isn’t buying the horse that swallows your money, it’s equipment and keeping the thing.

Biking isn’t much different now is it? Motolegends isn’t far from me and to hear them talking glibly about bike kit well into four figures is horrifying. Lord knows how youngsters can afford decent new kit.

Most of my kit has been gathered over 49 yrs of bike riding, my leathers and boots are 23 yrs old now but still serviceable… well kinda, the Daytona boots are rather like Grandads spade, they’ve been resoled three times and re-lined once!

Thanks for responding 👍

4 x Helmets. 5 if you include the one i made into a bedside lamp.
4 x waterproof suits
3 x pairs of boots
4 x pairs of jeans
1 x leather jacket
1 x set over waterproof over trousers and coat.
About 8 pairs of gloves
I seem to own more biking kit than casual walkabout gear.

I am a collector of motorcycle clothing, mostly BMW-branded, mostly off eBay at rock-bottom prices or bring&buy sales.

2 x leather suits.
1 x winter waterproof textile suit.
1 x denim textile suit.
1 x leather jacket.
1 x mesh jacket.
1 x summer-weight waterproof jacket.
2 x textile jackets.
1 x summer riding jeans.

5 pairs of gloves.
2 x boots - one waterproof, the other not.
1 x riding sneakers.

Some of the clothing is shared with my son.

I am defintely a "sad" person.

I'm clearly VERY sad, although in my defence, I've only just returned to biking after a 15 year lay-off. (It took me 9 of those years to finally throw away the bike gear I used to have!)

But having only just returned, I literally only have:
1 x helmet
1 x Pair of summer gloves
1 x RST Textile Jeans
1 x RST Textile Jacket
1 x Alpinestars Boots

I feel I should be ashamed of myself and must now begin to build on this poor inventory!

It never seems as though you have enough kit and then you look and think it probably is:

2 helmets
5 pairs of gloves
2 pairs boots
1 textile suit
1 mesh jacket
2 leather jackets
2 pairs leather trousers
1 2-piece leather suit
1 old BMW Adventure jacket

Oh, and at least 10 Buff neck-warmers. And please let's not get into bike socks and technical underwear/ base layers!
