Battery charger for when using the hex gs911 ?

Post by Panman40 »

My optimate isn’t man enough to keep the battery up when using the gs911 for various tasks. Is there a cheap n cheerful charger out there suitable ?, ideally with an sae 2 pin connector I can hook up to the optimate lead I have in situ.

Thanks for any pointers.

I have one of these https://no.co/genius5

Available from your local halfords

I use this instead of the optimate when I have the bike connected to the GS-911

Thanks for the link, it looks good but ideally I didn’t want to pay that much just at the moment, I see Halfords do something similar of their own brand but it’s 6A. Also comes with the sae lead, I wonder if this one would suffice ?.

It will be more than powerful enough but is it suitable for bike batteries?

Some of the reviews say it’s compatible with the kind of batteries our bikes use.

I missed this bit when looking!
Quick connectors with clamps or O-ring terminals for long term connection and use on motorcycle batteries
Also with a rating from 3 to 6amp I suspect it would be fine especially for short term use anyway

Drat!, wife picked one up for me today and unfortunately they have changed the male/female 2 pin SAE connectors so it won’t connect up to my optimate lead. It I even shows the 2 different cables terminating in the sae plug I needed in the instruction manual. Oh well I’ll return it.

If it has crocodile clips or permanent leads you will still be able to use it

You will always have to remove the panel near the battery anyway to access the OBD connector and the battery is just there so you can easily use the croc clips or hide a separate permanent lead in there

Good idea, I’m using the croc clips and the croc clips / sae connector from the optimate to cobble it up. Seems to work ok .
