Got any questions about the BMW's R1200RT/R1250RT's onboard audio, Bluetooth or the Electrical system?

2018 R1200RT Radio Retro Fit

Post by Dreadnought »

Good morning all,
Quick couple of questions:

1, Is it easy to retro fit a stereo (head unit) to a bike (2018 R1200RT)?
2, Do you have to use a BMW unit or can something else be used?

Many thanks

The Alpine radio unit is under the seat, stations are changed using the control wheel and displayed throught the dash. I have not found reception to be brilliant using the standard bike aerial and have fitted an aftermarket DAB radio to the USB port (and fitted separate DAB aerial). You can't hear the speakers above 40 mph so you have to listen through a Bluetooth headset. Parts prices would be horrendous.

The sensible choice is use a smartphone to pick up your preferred radio station and broadcast to your BT headset. Radio does not use up a great deal of roaming data.

Having said that, I am a complete sucker for having a radio on the bike. But I would not bother to retrofit.

Hope this helps ...... Feel free to PM me with any questions.

The radio is listed on the parts catalogue for retrofit but is expensive parts and labour wise
