One of my winter maintenance jobs is to tidy up the lower Crankcase areas where Road Muck and Stone Chips has degraded the finish. Appreciate it if anyone can recommend a suitable paint, preferably in Spray Can format. The original paint would appear to be of a "Satin" type finish. There are lots of what look like similar finish paints available here in the UK such as those recommended for Barbecues, Gas Fire Surrounds etc and it would be nice if anyone has used any of these.

The bbq or heat proof paint will dry to a dull like a blackboard type of finish so stay away from those

Hammerite satin Black could be what you're after.

Hammerite smooth satin black is what you're after. It also has good chip resistance

I bought at 100ml tin of Granville Cylinder Black Satin Finish, it was the only brush on engine paint I could find. Have previously used something called Pot Black but can't remember the manufacturer's name.

Anyway, painted the sump area today from below the bottom of the oil sight glass level on both sides and underneath. The paint is quite thin, goes on and covers easly. Should air dry overnight then cure fully when the engine is running and hot. Pleased with the result so far.

P.S. Does the Hammerite stuff stand up ok to engine temperatures.

Alkyd paint is tougher than oil based Hammerite.

Checked the paint this morning, it's dry but I would say that the "Satin" finish is not the same as the OEM paint which is more "Matt". However, my bike is 10 years old with 43K miles on the clock. Get the panels back on, add some road dirt and it'll all blend in together.

I have a few pots I want to cover up on my 2016 wethead

I will update on whether this is a good match for the black engine paint

Not sure if it would be the same colour on other models
