Avon Tyres to Close

Sad to hear that the iconic British Tyre manufacturer Avon are to cease all production at the end of 2023. Apparently profits have been in a steady decline. Profits of over £4 million in 1993 dwindled down to less than £7000 in 2020 which is unsustainable. I can recall using Avon Tyres at the start of my Motorcycling some 60 years ago and more recently had Avon's Spirit ST's on my RT's which where great.

Just put some Avons on my car. Maybe that will help!

I think Cooper own them now, along with Hoosier, the latter seems to be taking over from Avon in 4 wheeled motorsport at a grass roots level

From what I can remember, might have had an Avon Speedmaster on the front and RoadRunner on the rear of my early 70's BSA 650 Lightning.
Or even RR front & rear, it was usually a choice between Avon RR and Dunlop TT100 in the day.
Avon closing will be a loss to those wishing to retain the classic look of their bikes with age related tyres.

The modern Storm 3Ds are excellent tyres, cant get them to budge on UK roads I'd rate as good or if not better than Pilots

That a sad end to a British brand. The last time i used Avon was a long time ago on my CB250 super dream and CX500. I heard that a new Storm was coming out in the spring of next year. Maybe just a rumor. My son really rates their Trekriders on his KTM 1290 adventure.

Cooper who own Avon have merged with Goodyear who own Dunlop.
There will be a rationalisation amonst the brands which will spell the end for most - if not all - the Avon tyres.
My local supplier is mortified. Avon wholesale service (if there is a problem with a customer tyre that has to be returned) is superb, whereas Goodyear/Dunlop support is rubbish.

That is sad.
I put a set of Avon Cobra Chromes on my 1997 FLHR this summer.
They are my first Avons ever and unfortunately may be the last too.

I can see a lot of Avon Tyres going cheap on eBay in spring 2023.
Cooper started out as a remold tyre company. These were so good the rally racing world started using them and i know you can buy them for your normal street cats as well. For many years they have used their own design tyres, and the only company i know that guarantees them for 2 years. Get a puncture or a fault and they will repair or replace it for free within the said period. I wonder if they will use the Avon molds to produce M/C under the Cooper name
