Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
Hi All, In the not too distant future I will need to replace the rear brake pads on the 2018 R1250RT; so questions to the wise.
1. Brembo, EBC etc - I'm assuming all big names are broadly speaking as good as each other. Any particular recommendations?
2. Sintered, Organic, Carbon. - Real world and not race track, are any better or worse?
3. Actually changing the pads. - Any hidden nasties?
ta.

EBC HH sintered all the way for me
I have them on mine front and rear and they work well
I have had organic before and they where dreadful! Just no feel to them and no stopping power

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
BMW recommends and fits Organic pads for the rear. I've used Organic pads on other bikes including my Himayalan which comes with Organic Brembo pads. They lack feel and you need more pressure on the levers. On my RT 07 i fitted EBC HH front and rear. They give better braking across the board.
At the same time of fitting, i also replaced the discs f and R. That was 9 thou miles ago. In the Past people reported that Sintered pads wore the discs fast but over the years ive never noticed any wear difference. Between Brembo and EBC i would go for the EBC HH pads.
As a side note, i would stay away from Carbon pads. They wear quickly and need warming up to make they work, something not suitable for a normal street bike.

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
The BMW OEM rear brake pads on a 2018 R1250RT are sintered metal, whatever that means. On the rear, I've only ever used BMW OEM pads.
Once tried EBC on the front because they were half the price of the BMW OEM ones. False economy on this occasion, they didn't have any feel or bite. Threw them away and bought some BMW OEM ones. Will always use the genuine pads in the future.

Sounds like you got the organic pads and not the HH sintered pads
The Organic ones are really soft and just no feel at all and not bite
I have HH sintered and two finger braking is all I do as there is loads of bite on them

I'm fairly certain they were Double-H Sintered from Motorworks, they just didn't work for me.

And me. Every bike I've had I've replaced the originals with EBC double H.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
I'm on OEM at the moment but have a spare set of EBC's in the toolbox ready to replace when necessary. I do know someone who had the EBC's break up but I've not experienced this personally...some love EBC's and others don't, I've never had any problems with them.
I looked up the Brembo direct replacements front/rear for my bike, the rear is the same for yours if you have Brembo brakes -
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorc ... ,3203,1186 for the rear @ £36.99.

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
Brembo do make the BMW OEM pads to a generic compound bearing in mind that the bikes are sold all over the world and ridden in different climates. Therefore, one pad compound has to suit all conditions. Non-OEM Brembo pads are offered in a variety of compounds. Previously, it was found that Brembo offer a "Genuine" compound range which apparently is the closest to OEM spec. without buying from BMW.

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
Wouldn't the 2018 R1250RT have Hayes supplied brake pads fitted?
I haven't looked at my 2018 R1250RT to see what it has fitted, but as the bike has only done 7k (I got it in Oct) the brakes should be good for a while yet.

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
Was it just the front calipers which were Hayes and the rear remained as Brembo.
I think that the Hayes front calipers may still have had Brembo pads fitted, TBC.

I would go for the cheapest, then if they are duff you have not forked out money for " the we recommend " .

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
Love it! The cheapest may also be dreadful but hey, you won’t have wasted much money and it’s only your brakes after all
If you’re really unsure of which pads to chose then, unless you’ve had problems with the default OEM pads, go for them.

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT
My Tiger came with Goldfen Pads fitted by the PO. They were terrible with no feel or grip. On removing them i saw large chunks of pad missing. These were quickly changed for EBC HH pads. The same can be said for SBS pads. Worst pads ive ever tried.
Both these makes are on the cheap side and will never enter a caliber again.

The Brembo 07BB03.59 with a gold back plate are the ones. Can't seem to find any in the UK, they are available from the EU but postage hikes up the price.
