I wanted a rider back rest one for the RT but as usual nothing available in the UK - have to import and very expensive so made one for myself and well pleased with it

Can you show where yo bolted it under the seat? Welcome to the forum

The back rest is bolted onto the front face of the passenger seat. The whole thing comes away with the back seat so as not to cause an obstruction when needing to remove the riders seat to work on battery or such.
Obviously you need to make sure that the passenger seat is located and locked properly before riding as having it come loose unexpectedly whilst resting on the back rest whilst riding can give one quite a surprise.

I used 3mm stainless plate and made a plate for either side of the seat carcass to support the seat and give strength.

Don't know about drawing as never did one - worked it all out in my head- I have it all disassembled at min to paint- can take lots of pics of how it all goes together and send that.
Sargent seats do one for the RT- their fitting instructions sheet, a pdf, will offer a good idea of how to make one.

That’s a really good idea too. Especially if you only ever ride solo. I sometimes take a passenger hence wanted something that gave me that option too.
Plenty of time and having all the materials left over from previous projects was also motivation to make the one I did.
The whole thing cost me 6 welding rods and two cutting discs.
Nice solution though with very little work. Like it.

On long trips i use a dry sack as my back rest. Did think about a fixed back rest for a while but gave up after seeing the price

The rolling suitcase with the padding is really a nice option. The largest Moto Fizz Camping Bag has been my choice, and because it is so large, it also doubles as a backrest.

What recently has become a concern for me is the difficulty having something so large on the back seat that causes me to have to "crawl" onto the saddle. However, I have found that standing on the left side foot peg can help immensely.

After some consideration, I decided that if two side cases, a trunk and some kind of bag on the seat was not enough luggage space, then perhaps I was packing too much. My back is usually not an issue, so a backrest is not essential.

On my last trip, I was determined to carry less, so a medium-sized dry bag was substituted for the Moto Fizz Camping Bag. It made it considerably easier to mount the bike, and I able to carry just the dry bag and one of the side case bags into my lodging. I made it a challenge to leave my helmet, riding pants and gloves behind, so my top case remained almost empty until we hit our lodging.

It also helps too to turn your underwear inside out, which effectively doubles the wear time and lessens the amount of clothing that needs to be taken along....LOL

One reason the wife doesn't come with me anymore. I take the minimum and she takes up the panniers and top box. Why do women need so much stuff for a week away?

There not all like that,when we did the six weeks round Europe I gave my miss's a pannier of thr VFR and told her that was her space on the bike. She had a space on the rack atop the topbox for a pair of sandals and her waterproof gear.

That's what we used to do, a side case each.

The Boss always gets her own way. On a trip, i wash my clothes as i go along. If there was room i think she would take the kitchen sink.
