The BMW weight guidelines for setting suspension and tyre pressures are based on a rider being between 8 - 13 st with an average of 11 st.

The question, "I wonder how many on this forum are 8 - 13 st to conform to BMW’s baseline" has been asked.

When BMW offers these weights do they mean our normal body weight or booted/suited as we would be riding the bike? I’ve just weighed myself kitted up and that adds another 1.5st to the equation.

Not sure about that one Steve. BMW Customer Services gave me the weight guidelines, I didn't ask whether it was with or without riding kit. My guess is it would be body weight only, as riding kit is variable and just adds to the payload on the bike.

Oh god, what with me and Sharon on the RT plus clothing and lids I will have to take the panniers and top box off just to get within the max payload these bikes can carry

Interesting. Given what the RT is designed for, the ever increasing amount of kit we now feel is essential, the erm, increased weight of the average Western European/US adult and the age group the RT is aimed at, that 226kg (for the latest RT) max load rating isn't very much for two up touring. Call me a fat git if you like, (and I am) but at 106kg, plus another say 10 for my kit, plus the missus, less (but a polite, I'm not saying what), doesn't leave much spare for a fully loaded camping trip. Come on BMW, time to move with the times.

I investigated payloads in 2017 when looking for new bike. RT had one of highest triumph explorer was highest if remember correctly but not by much. Others were woefully low. Not easy to get figures at all you really need to reserch to obtain figures on some makes. Always cringe when read about owners adding racks on top box or panniers who claim to not have enough room for gear two up.
