Bmw has brought out a new fuel level sensor strip has anybody any information it's been confirmed by my local bmw dealers but they don't know what changes have been made compared to old unreliable sensor

I had the new type of strip fitted. The parts chap could only tell me it has a different part number. Time will only tell if it's any better than the last 6 fitted to my 07.

I also had the 'new part number'fuel strip fitted to my '09 RT.

it was fitted and calibrated by the dealer in January. Dealer said the part had been 'improved' but couldnt elaborate further.

It is working great so far no issues.its accuracy is pretty good.

After three strip replacements on my 2007 RT I have given up trying to fix the issue. It's only annoying when I don't fill the tank up to the top.

Only got mine sorted because the PO paid to have a new one fitted. so it was covered under a 2 year warranty. There were 2 months left to run. If that wasn't an option i wouldn't have bothered. Ok, it may be a pain for some not to have a working gauge but we all have trip meters. Reset it with every fill up and start looking for more around the 200 mile mark.

you can easily get 300 miles between fill-ups on an RT

Yes, you will get more from a tank but i always fill around the 200 mile mark as a piece of mind. I get 280 to 290 to a tank touring. Its always better to have more than less fuel.

I can't believe that after possible 2o years bmw have just brought out a modified fuel sensor what took them so long

Looking at the history of my bike it seems the fuel strip was replaced at 10k miles and is still working at 35k. I haven't had a bike with a fuel gauge since a GPz750 back in the eighties so it's a bit of a novelty for me. I've been touring for the last 12 years on a bike that does 130 miles until a fuel light comes on - at which point you have 10 miles to find fuel.
Having to stop for fuel twice just to get to the ferry at Pembroke Dock has always driven me mad. Although the bike will do it in theory, there isn't a petrol station where I need it!

I'm not sure I'd chance 300miles to a tank with a non-working gauge though.

For those who have experienced the fuel strip issue I am wondering if mine is dying .
2010 RT with 51K miles . It had been standing over a year prior to my buying it a fortnight ago. I was running the old petrol out so I could put healthy (ish..e10) in. Bike claimed to be a quarter full and fortunately as I was riding up to a petrol station it stopped and i free wheeled into station. Filled up with lovely new petrol, the gauge claims full and pump stopped and fuel nearly at top of tank. Guess the strip sees full. Now is this quarter full and being empty a cause for concern or will the strip recalibrate itself with a refilled tank and lovely clean fuel.
Do I go down the zap route now or give it a chance etc...

Sounds like it needs recalibrating with a GS911 or it's off to the dealers. When mine went it would only register quarter full and the low light was on
