Bmw RT 1250 Agility
Is the new 1250 RT more agile than my 2010 Rt 1200?
Especially in 180 degree tight uphill hairpin bends.
And no I don't want a GS

The simple answer is yes.
You can't really compare a 2010 1200rt against a new 1250rt as they are chalk and cheese. I regularly ride out with chaps on the older generation bikes, we get a move on and it's still like a cat playing with an injured mouse.
The GS handles better if the rider of said GS is confident enough to push it, the RT will happy push a GS it's just harder work for the RT rider.
The 1250RT will happily lead between 38 and 42 degrees where as the GS will do that and more.

No Simbo the GS isn't the better bike the XR is.

A motorcycle’s agility depends upon three main considerations:
1. Its overall weight
2. Its steering geometry, including wheelbase
3. The resistance of its rotating masses to changes of direction.
The 2010 Camhead is 263 kg, whereas, the new 1250 is 279 kg.
From what I can see, the steering geometry and wheelbase is the same on both bikes.

Yes, it will cope with 180 degrees hairpin but it depends on road position, speed, tyres, road surface condition and the rider.
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

Just this last weekend, I was overtaken by a big chap on a GS, with his Mrs on the back!

The Stelvio Pass has 75 hairpin bends, have done it three times, two up on a Camhead RT.

My Mrs was coughing really loud in my intercom as we went past or i would have waved, didn't help some ornithologist on an RT pulling up sharply to point at a bird in the sky!!

Yes the riders ability will effect things greatly but the 1250 will pull you round and away alot easier with its 136bhp @ 7700rpm and more importantly 143nm of torque @ 6250rpm, compared to the 2010 model with only 110hp at 7500rpm and 115nm torque 6000rpm.
Then if you throw in the rider aids, meaning you can brake later, brake harder turning in and get on the power sooner. This will help get around and onto the next hairpin alot faster but more importantly with a bigger smile.
I'm yet to see the injured mouse beat the cat and run away.

In answer to your question.. No.. The older generation 10-13 RT is just as agile, It's also more ergonomically friendly. It's down on power without doubt from the 14 to 19 year, even more so on the 19 to present shift cam models so your never going to keep up with the later models against riders of equal ability.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Does a steering damper help or hinder the agility of a motorcycle.
