How to position an ULYS electron toll tag for France peages

Hi All

Advice needed please!

I now have an activated ULYS electronic fob tag which should allow me to pass through the toll barriers in France on my bike without stopping. However, I'm not sure how best to position / fix this on my bike or clothing so that a) the fob is secure b) It is read by the toll gate reader and lets me pass through! The fob is not very big (5cm x 2cm x 0.5cm). If I keep it zipped inside my jacket pocket will the technology pick it up?

Many thanks.

Matt

I used one through France and Italy for the first time in June/July this year, so I was a complete learner too. Here’s what I picked up along the way -

**Read all the bumph that comes with the pack.**

I seem to remember that Ulys suggest the map pocket on a tank bag or outer chest pocket of the jacket. They also supply a stick on plastic mount but I was too worried the heat would cause it to un-stick and I’d lose it, especially as the curved screen doesn’t really have a flat surface.

I also wear an air vest so I decided the jacket pocket was out, but the vest has a zipped pocket for the gas cylinder where it fitted in there nicely and worked almost every time.

Check you have it the correct way around, enter the toll lane slowly, and it should be ok. I also put the hazards on each time as on the couple of occasions it failed it’s a pig to paddle out a fully laden bike with cars stacked up behind you… they’re not too happy either!

Ensure you take the correct lane, and have a good look before you commit yourself. On one toll the tag didn’t work initially but then I saw that there were road markings showing that bikes sidle down the right hand side of the barrier.

Finally, take care as you leave the barriers as it tends to be a bit chaotic as the other traffic swap lanes to get to where they want to be. I generally headed for the parking bay on the right to get out of the way.

You can roughly work out how much it will cost you here:

The tolls are automatically taken the following month from your bank.

I put mine in the left breast pocket and the sensor picked it up.
