New Bike Advice

Post by gixerjohn »

Hi, Finally collected my new RT yesterday, very, very pleased. A quick question; any advice on how to carry my chain when touring (other than in the pannier / top box)?

Cheers for any advice or tips.

It’s difficult isn’t it… but definitely not looped around your body! :o
I tend to use the OEM alarm/immobiliser if it’s temporary parked on the street, but on tour and parked overnight it has 2 alarmed disc locks as well.
You can only do what you can… have a look through this thread -

Hi Gixerjohn

I tour a lot across Europe on my 1250RT ...... fabulous bike. I have a heavy chain which, if memory serves, is either 90cm or 110cm long. I can measure it and let you know because the length is important (ahem!) I always wrap it immediately in front of the top box on the pillion seat. It wraps around the alloy frame that the top box sits on and the padlock can be tucked away immediately on top of the pannier. My wife - who is often pillion - reckons it is never a problem because it fits neatly behind her cute little derriere!

I can send pictures if you need..... of the chain on the bike, not my wife's derriere!

Cheers.

Matt
